The ability to beat opposing defences with his feet and his arm made Marshall McCray an easy choice for the 2021 Jan Cook Award, which honours the top high school football player in Niagara.
The award, which recognizes individual and team success, capped an excellent season for the Notre Dame quarterback. The 17-year-old led his team to an undefeated season which included a Niagara Catholic Athletic Association crown, a Niagara Bowl, a Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association championship and a 50-7 thumping of the North Park Collegiate Trojans in the Central Bowl, part of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations bowl playdowns.

On Friday night, it was Adam Ponting who came to the rescue when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish fell behind 6-0 early to the Saint Michael Mustangs in the junior championship game of the BPSN Best of Niagara Boys Basketball Tournament at St. Catharines Collegiate.
The 13-year-old scored six straight points to tie the game and then he kept right on going, finishing with 24 to help the Irish record a hard-fought 63-58 victory in front of a packed gym.

With a spot in the junior championship game of the BPSN Best of Niagara Boys Basketball Tournament on the line Thursday at Notre Dame, it was only fitting the ball ended up in the hands of Andrew Benko with the game on the line.
The Grade 10 student at Notre Dame didn’t disappoint, hitting a game-winning trey with 18.1 seconds left to lift the Fighting Irish to a 68-65 triumph over the Eden Flyers.
