Webber finds home at Oklahoma State

bpsports niagara ndcs 051222Flanked by his parents, Tanya and Josh, and his 15-month-old sister, Rebecca, Tyrone Webber returned to Notre Dame Thursday to replicate his signing of a NCAA Division 1 football scholarship with the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

The 19-year-old St. Catharines native has already been on campus in Stillwater, Okla., for a semester but it was important for him to return to Notre Dame to give credit to those that helped him along the way.

Orr does it all

NCCS BPSports Niagara 051122Cassie Orr is the definition of versatility.

The Grade 9 student at Notre Dame in Welland competes in javelin, shot put and high jump at the high school level and the member of the Thorold Elite Track Club excels in all three events.

At the upcoming NXT CHAMP Invitational June 18 and 19 in Toronto, an invitation-only meet that brings the top 16 athletes in the province together to compete, Orr will be taking part in five events.

NCAA track and field results

Check out the results from Wednesday’s Niagara Catholic Athletic Association track and field meet held at the Niagara Olympic Club.

The top four finishers advance to the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association championships next Wednesday and Thursday at Welland Centennial.

Irish rule football field

bpsports niagara 05072022Notre Dame’s dominance of tackle football spilled over into touch football Friday afternoon at Saint Paul.

Competing in the finals of the Fifth Annual Niagara Catholic Seven on Seven Passing Tournament, Notre Dame’s seniors defeated Saint Paul 29-1 and the Irish juniors recorded a 16-6 triumph over Saint Michael.

This was the first time the tournament involved junior teams and six Niagara Catholic Athletic teams competed at that level. There were also six Catholic teams at the senior level. Organizer Rick Oreskovich is looking forward to welcoming back teams from the public board in 2022 when the tournament expands to 12 teams at both the junior and senior levels.

Irish hand Reds first loss of season

bpsports niagara 05062022Niagara Juel basketball player Thea Lawson has become an invaluable member of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish girls soccer team.

“She has been banged up and we are hoping she can heal up a little bit,” Notre Dame head coach Tim Bisci said Thursday afternoon, after the Irish defeated visiting Denis Morris 4-1 in Niagara Catholic Athletic Association action. “She runs fast, she plays tough in the middle and every now and again she scores a goal for us.”
